Privacy Policy

This page covers what happens to your information when you read Rockies Bound: what we collect ourselves, what the booking tools on our pages collect, and the choices you have. If anything here is unclear, email [email protected] and we’ll answer.

Cookie choices

The first time you visit, a CookieYes banner asks what you’re happy with, grouped as Necessary, Functional, Analytics, Performance and Advertisement. Your choice is saved in a cookie called cookieyes-consent, with a few wp_consent_ cookies that pass it on to the rest of the site, and you can change it any time with the small cookie button in the bottom-left corner of every page.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to see which guides people read, roughly where they’re reading from, and what kind of device they use. Google Analytics only starts once you accept analytics cookies. Until then, and if you choose Reject All, nothing is sent to Google Analytics and its _ga cookies aren’t set. Google’s own explanation of what it does with this data is at How Google uses information from sites that use its services, and you can opt out everywhere with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

The site runs through Cloudflare, which protects it and delivers pages quickly. Cloudflare Web Analytics adds a small script that counts page views as soon as you arrive, before you make a cookie choice, and it doesn’t set cookies.

Booking tools and affiliate links

Some pages include booking tools from companies we have affiliate agreements with. They load from those companies’ own servers, so they can set their own cookies and collect usage data under their own privacy policies, even before you make a cookie choice here.

Viator (part of Tripadvisor) provides the tour widgets and banners you’ll see on many guides, and its widgets set their own cookies, including one used for bot protection. Stay22 provides the hotel map and Booking.com links on our Lake Louise and Moraine Lake where-to-stay guide. Inside that map, Stay22 uses its own tools, including Hotjar, Sentry and Google Analytics, and sets its own cookies.

When you book through one of these links or widgets, the company can tell the booking came from us and pays us a commission, at no extra cost to you. Our affiliate disclosure covers which partners we work with, and Viator’s privacy policy and Stay22’s privacy policy explain how they handle your data.

Comments

If you leave a comment, WordPress stores the name, email address and optional website you enter, along with your IP address and browser details, which help catch spam. Your email address is never shown publicly, though a scrambled version of it goes to Gravatar to check whether you have a profile picture to show beside your comment. Comments stay on the site until they’re removed, and if you’d like one of yours taken down, email us and we’ll do it.

Email

When you email us, we keep your message and address so we can reply and pick up the conversation later. We don’t add anyone to a mailing list.

Your information and your rights

You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by emailing [email protected]. We don’t sell your information. Data held by Google, Cloudflare, Viator or Stay22 is handled under their own policies, and each of them offers its own way to request it.

Changes to this policy

When the tools on the site change, we update this page. It was last updated on October 1, 2026.
